Dr. Elaine Kasket on Woman’s Hour
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the digital landscape, it is also creating new challenges for child safety and online privacy.
Earlier this week, Dr Elaine Kasket joined the BBC's Woman's Hour to discuss reports from the National Crime Agency highlighting how offenders are exploiting AI technologies to target children in increasingly sophisticated ways.
Drawing on both her professional expertise and personal experience, Elaine reflected on a conversation with her own child about the images she had shared online over the years. Her child described feeling a lack of agency over those decisions, prompting Elaine to painstakingly remove photographs that had been posted throughout their childhood.
The discussion underscored a question many parents are now facing: not simply what can be shared online, but who gets to make that decision, and how children themselves experience having a digital identity created on their behalf.
